Tributes are flooding social media for Jovenel Moïse who has been killed in an attack on his home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.
As reported by The BBC, Haiti’s interim prime minister Claude Joseph revealed that the president’s home was stormed by armed men at 01:00 local time on Wednesday morning.

How many children does Jovenel Moïse have?
The President of Haiti has three children.
Not much is known about them, but their names are Jomarlie Moïse, Jovenel Junior Moïse and Joverlein Moïse.
All three of Jovenel Moïse’s children have the same mother, his wife and First Lady Martine Moïse.
None of the children appear to have been injured in the attack on their family home on July 7th.
Who is Jovenel Moïse‘s wife?
Martine Marie Étienne Moïse is Jovenel Moïse’s wife, who served as the First Lady of Haiti from 2017 to her husband’s death on July 7th 2021.
Born in Port-au-Prince, the 47-year-old received a degree in interpretation studies from Quisqueya University where she met her husband Jovenel.
During her time as First Lady, she served as president of the Fondasyon Klere Ayiti, a community organisation focused on civic education and women’s issues.
In 2017, she then became president of coordination for Global Fund in Haiti which aims to alleviate HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases in Haiti.
She also advocates for new investments in the arts and crafts industry in Haiti and puts a lot of effort into boosting local artisans.
In the attack on July 7th, Martine was reportedly seriously injured and hospitalised. However, her current condition is unknown.
Jovenel and Martine’s relationship explored
Jovenel and Martine married in 1996.
In the same year, they then moved to Port-de-Paix together with the intention of working in rural development.
Since then, they have always lived together in Port-de-Paix and raised their children there together until Jovenel’s death.
