ARMY fans across the world are eagerly anticipating the release of BTS’ latest collaboration after a teaser dropped earlier this week.
BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan, otherwise known as Beyond The Scene) are the most popular K-pop group worldwide. The group have been active since 2013 and are currently going strong in sweeping the world with their ever-growing popularity.
Their latest endeavour ‘Butter’ saw the band hit number 1 on Billboard charts and now fans can’t wait for their upcoming song, with Ed Sheeran as co-writer. This is one of many, in a long line of BTS’ collaborations with Western artists.
So, what do we know about the BTS x Ed Sheeran Collab?
BTS x Ed Sheeran: Permission to Dance release date and teaser
- A new BTS song titled ‘Permission to Dance’ is set to release on 9th July 2021. The song is a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and other well-known artists.
The upcoming song was announced by Ed Sheeran on 27th June 2021. This was ahead of the official announcement on 1st July 2021, which showed the names of producers Steve Mac, Stephen Kirk and Jenna Andrews (who has worked with them on ‘Butter’. The writers shown include Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac, Johnny McDaid and Jenna Andrews.
On 6th July 2021, HYBE Labels dropped a teaser on their YouTube account. The song is set to feature on the ‘Butter’ CD, with instrumental versions for both songs. Both CD and MV will drop on the same day. Watch the teaser below:
Previous BTS and Ed Sheeran collaborations with Western and Korean artists
This would be the second song that Ed Sheeran has worked with BTS on. The first was in 2019 when he helped the group as a writer on their song titled ‘Make It Right’, from ‘Map Of The Soul’ album.
While Sheeran has worked with many solo artists and bands before, this would appear to be the first time (now his second) working with South Korean artists.
BTS on the other hand have collaborated with Western artists on countless occasions. Here are some of the artists they have worked with in the past:

BTS chart history and accomplishments
BTS have made history for international Korean artists on numerous occasions. The first time they made it to the Billboard Top 100, was when they placed 10th with their song ‘Fake Love’ (2018). Making it the 17th non-English song to reach the top ten and first by a Korean group.
Preceding them as an international Korean artist was Psy, as a solo artist, who made it to number 2 in 2012 with ‘Gangnam Style’ and once more in 2013 with ‘Gentleman’.
Following this, they placed in the top 5 for UK Charts on two occasions, the first with the release of ‘Dynamite’ in 2020 and the second with ‘Butter’ (2021).
BTS were the first Asian band to headline Wembley Stadium and Rose Bowl Stadium and the first Korean act to perform at the Grammy’s in 2020. They are also known for their Commercial influence, Endorsements and Philanthropy and have won numerous awards, such as Golden Disk Awards, Grammy Awards and Brit Awards, to name a few.
