Tiago Tomas has poured cold water on speculation linking him with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal, telling Record he’s “100 per cent” certain he’ll stay at Sporting Lisbon.

In February, it felt like only a matter of time before another Portuguese-speaking talent was saying ‘Ola’ to Arsenal.

The Sun claimed the north London giants were on the verge of sealing a potential £20 million deal for teenager Tomas.

Technical director Edu Gaspar was holding talks with Sporting counterpart Hugo Viana too with Arsenal, who missed out on a baby-faced Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003, desperate to ensure another Lisbon-based wonderkid didn’t slip through their fingers.

“A (contract) renewal would only make me happier. (I am) 100 per cent staying at Sporting.”

Will Arsenal regret failing to sign Tiago Tomas?

Tomas featured 30 times as Los Leoes climbed to the top of the domestic tree for the first time in two decades, breaking a record set by a toothy, blond-tipped Ronaldo all those years ago along the way.

According to AS, Sporting are convinced Tomas could be the second coming of CR7 and, if he is, they may struggle to convince him his future lies at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

With Sporting determined to build on their best season in a generation, Ruben Amorim’s ‘Invincibles’ will also retain the services of Pedro ‘Pote’ Rodriguez while powerhouse midfielder Joao Palhinha has shown little interest in a move away despite reported interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

£20 million-rated Brazilian Matheus Nunes, meanwhile, was closing in on a move to Everton a few weeks ago but the appointment of Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park appears to have changed all that…
