Genoa hope to agree a deal with Manchester City over a loan transfer for Filip Stevanovic in the coming days, according to TuttoMercatoWEB.

The Serie A side have spoken with the Citizens over the Serbian as they look to bolster Davide Ballardini’s options. Genoa ended last season 11th in the Italian top-flight table, but boasted one of the tamest offences.

Only six sides scored fewer than the Luigi Ferraris Stadium outfit, who failed to score nine times in 38 games. Stevanovic offered an occasional goal presence in the Serbian Super Lig in 2020/21, with the 18-year-old netting four times and assisting twice in 27 appearances.

Stevanovic initially caught Manchester City’s attention with his efforts for Partizan Belgrade in 2019/20. The Etihad Stadium outfit struck an €8m (£7m) deal for the sought-after gem in October, before he remained at Partizan Stadium on loan for the remainder of the season.

Now, Stevanovic is at Manchester City, but Genoa hope they can convince Pep Guardiola to sanction a move to Italy. The Serie A side want to wrap up a loan deal in the coming days after making contact. They also believe there is a realistic chance of finding an agreement.

Genoa latest challenger keen on Manchester City talent Stevanovic

Genoa are only the latest challenger keen to sign Stevanovic on loan from Manchester City, though. Voetbal International noted over the weekend that Eredivisie outfit Heerenveen had also contacted the Citizens to discuss signing the Serbian.

Heerenveen have been pursuing Stevanovic for months and Manchester City are happy to send him to the Abe Lenstra Stadion. But Guardiola is not rushing to make a decision, and could force Heerenveen and Genoa to wait for the teenager.

Stevanovic was allowed to stay and mature at Partizan but is far from the finished product. A move to the Netherlands could be considered a lesser step now, with Heerenveen on the decline in recent seasons. They finished the Eredivisie campaign 12th last term after losing 13 games, their lowest placement since 2015/16, with a rather defensive style of football.
