Richard Keys has written on his website that former Liverpool players should stop saying that Everton are lucky to have Rafael Benitez as their new manager.

Former Liverpool boss Benitez has been appointed as the new Everton manager following the return of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid last month.

It is a controversial appointment.

Benitez is a former Liverpool manager who was in charge of the Reds from 2004 until 2010.

Everton and Liverpool are bitter Merseyside rivals.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has said no ex-Liverpool players should say how lucky Everton are lucky to have Benitez as their new manager.

The beIN SPORTS presenter has said that Benitez’s appointment as the Everton boss will not work out.

Keys wrote on his website: “Please – no more X-Liverpool players telling Evertonians how lucky they are to have Benitez at Goodison. No they’re not. Most don’t want him.

“The majority will tolerate him, but they don’t want lectures on how they should be feeling from across Stanley Park. It will end in tears. It always does with Benitez.”

Staying positive

There is nothing that Everton fans who do not want Benitez as their manager can do now.

The Spaniard has already been appointed in the role.

What is important is that everyone at the club, including the fans, stay positive.

Yes, Benitez is a former Liverpool manager, but the Spaniard has also been very successful in his career.

Perhaps under the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss, Everton will at least start to challenge for the Premier League top four.
