Dharmesh Sheth has said on Sky Sports that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are planning to make a third bid for Ben White.

What’s the story?

The Sky Sports journalist has said that Arsenal have had two offers for the former Leeds United loanee turned down by Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Gunners are planning to make a third offer now.

Sheth has also claimed that Brighton have not publicly said how much they want for the 23-year-old defender.

The journalist said on Sky Sports: “Talks are continuing between Arsenal and Brighton over the signing of the England defender. Arsenal have had now two bids rejected, the first was for £40 million, the other one, with add-ons, closer to around £47 million, £48 million.

“They are expected, though, to go back in with a third bid. Brighton, intriguingly, haven’t made public their valuation, and their owner Tony Bloom, he will not stand in Ben White’s way if Ben White wants to leave, provided Brighton’s valuation is met.”

Interesting claim

We know that Arsenal have had two bids turned down for White.

Journalist Duncan Castles had earlier disclosed that on the Transfer Window Podcast.

What is interesting from Sky Sports journalist Sheth’s claim is that Brighton have not publicly said how much they want for White.

We assumed that it was £50 million.

After all, The Daily Mail reported last month that the Seagulls were looking for £50 million for White, who can also play as a right-back and in midfield.

Thinking about it, no Brighton official has actually been quoted as saying that the Premier League club are looking for £50 million.

Is White worth £50 million or more?

Well, a player is worth what a club are willing to pay for him.

For Brighton, selling a 23-year-old who had played just one season in the Premier League for £50 million would be great business.
