Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur have made a £25 million bid for Lazio’s Joaquin Correa with Fabio Paratici hoping to finally land a winger he tried and failed to bring to Juventus, as reported by Alfredo Pedulla.
Maurizio Sarri is still arranging the furniture in his Stadio Olimpico office, but Simone Inzaghi’s replacement is already facing a major headache with the new Serie A season just weeks away.
Much to Sarri’s dismay, Lazio look certain to lose one of their star players sooner rather than later, with Alfredo Pedulla reporting that Correa is all-but certain to have a new club by the end of the month.
Who that ‘new club’ is, however, remains to be seen.
It is no secret that Paris Saint-Germain are interested but even a club bankrolled by Qatari billionaires are not immune to Financial Fair Play rules or the effects of an unprecedented pandemic.
Are Tottenham beating PSG to Joaquin Correa?
PSG need to sell before they can buy, with Alfredo Pedulla suggesting that the Ligue 1 giants cannot match the £25 million bid put on the table by Tottenham as things stand.
Les Parisiens do have an ace up their sleeve, however, in the shape of Spain international Pablo Sarabia.
It is understood that PSG could offer Sarabia to Lazio as part of a player-plus-cash deal that would see Correa swap the Italian capital for the banks of the Seine.
Correa has also been linked with Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool, but Tottenham appear to have become the most likely destination for Correa should he leave Lazio for a Premier League club.
Paratici’s Juventus offered around £50 million for Correa last summer, with the former Sevilla star a long-running ‘obsession’ for the newly-appointed Tottenham director.
One of the most exciting and technically gifted attackers in Italian football, Correa produced 11 goals and six assists during what appears to have been his final season at Lazio.
