Tottenham would have few problems meeting Miralen Pjanic’s £120,000-a-week wage demands should the Barcelona benchwarmer make a summer move to the Premier League, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
As far as head-scratching transfers go, Barca’s decision to pay £55 million for a 30-year-old Pjanic last summer is right up there.
It was a deal that looked strange at the time and looks nothing short of baffling now.
The now-31-year-old play-maker started a grand total of six La Liga matches in 2020/21 as the Blaugrana finished third in the table and, after making his dissatisfaction clear, could now be released just 12 months into a three-year deal.
Is Barcelona’s Miralem Pjanic heading to Tottenham?
According to Goal, a debt-ridden Barcelona have offered to cancel Pjanic’s contract, meaning a player bought for nearly £60 million could leave for absolutely nothing after a single season in Spanish football.
If you were wondering how a club the size of Barcelona have found themselves in such a dire financial situation, well, wonder no more.
The Pjanic saga is hardly unique at a club who tend to burn through money quicker than KLF.

Sport claimed last week that Pjanic could be offered a fresh start in England, with Tottenham’s newly-appointed sporting director Fabio Paratici looking to reunite with a set-piece specialist who lifted seven trophies during their time together at Juventus.
Tuttomercatoweb now back up those claims, adding that Spurs should have few problems taking over Pjanic’s £120,000-a-week wages.
That would make the Bosnian one of the best-paid players in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, although a hefty contract would be undercut by the absence of a transfer fee.
Barcelona have already loaned out Fransisco Trincao to Wolves – 18 months after paying £29 million to sign him from Braga – while the Leeds-bound Junior Firpo will also be sold for a substantial loss.
