Celtic may have just moved another step closer to signing Hajduk Split defender Marko Vuskovic, if new reports from Sportske Novosti are anything to go by.

Ange Postecgolou has inherited a Celtic side in desperate need of defensive additions; they’ve lost another body in loanee Shane Duffy, although it may have been more of a problem if he had stayed given his dismal displays.

Kristoffer Ajer is a wanted man in England and has just one year left on his contract, whilst Christopher Jullien only managed nine league games last season. Basically, Celtic need a centre back or two… or three.

The arrival of Osaze Urhoghide may help, but he’s more for the future. One of their key targets is Marko Vuskovic, who has impressed in Croatia with Hajduk.

Last week, Sportske Novosti suggested that Vuskovic to Celtic would be done within days, with the Bhoys spending around £5million on him.

That deal hasn’t been done yet. Some Celtic fans may be worried that the move is stalling, but there is encouraging news coming from Croatia.

Sportske Novosti note that Vuskovic was left out of Hajduk’s 3-1 friendly win over Aris because he is ‘preparing for the transfer to Celtic’.

If that is correct, the 19-year-old should be a Celtic player very soon.

Vuskovic is a huge talent, possessing strong defensive instincts as well as quality on the ball to play out from the back.

Vuskovic could immediately help Celtic’s rebuild, bringing quality from the word go as well as having huge resale value for the future; pretty much ideal for the Bhoys.
