July 2021 is an exciting month for Pokémon Go fans for several reasons, but – as always – there’s no rest for the wicked. Team Go Rocket are still around and you will need the absolute best counters to exploit the weakness of Shadow Ho-Oh to beat the boss Giovanni.

While there’s plenty happening in the weeks to come, you should know that the special research tasks and rewards for Bidoof Day have started. In addition, Deoxys and Mewtwo are the month’s legendary five-star raids with the former appearing on the 1st and the latter on the 16th.

Both are incredibly difficult foes to topple, but the Team Go Rocket boss is no slouch either as he’s a beast of a man.

How to beat Giovanni in Pokémon Go during July 2021

To beat Giovanni in Pokémon Go during July 2021 you will need to conquer his line-up of creatures:

Line-up one:

  • Persian

Line-up two:

  • Kangaskhan
  • Garchomp
  • Nidoking

Line-up three:

  • Shadow Ho-Oh

Shadow Ho-Oh counters and weakness

Shadow Ho-Oh is a Fire and Flying-type with a major weakness to Rock attacks, so suitable counters include Rhyperior and Rampardos.

You can focus on its Achilles heel by employing Terrakion, Tyranitar, and Golem instead, or you choose to attack its vulnerability to Electricity and Water. If you choose to go this route, then you will want to deploy pocket monsters like Zapdos, Electivire, and Omastar.

Exploiting its prime weakness to Rock will allow you to topple the corrupted bird of fire, but you will need to defeat the Team Go Rocket boss’s other minions first.
