Fabio Capello has claimed that reported Liverpool target Pedri can reach the level of Lionel Messi, as quoted in La Vanguardia.

Yes, that Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi comparison

Capello, a former Real Madrid and England manager, has been impressed by Pedri’s performances for Spain at Euro 2020 so far.

The legendary Italian manager believes that the 18-year-old Barcelona central midfielder is incredible.

Capello has said that Pedri can reach the level of his Barcelona teammate and footballing legend Messi.

Liverpool interest

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Pedri in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror reported in April that the former Premier League champions have made contact with the agents of the Barcelona youngster.

Barcelona do not want to sell the youngster and want him to sign a new deal.

Pedri’s release clause now is £70 million.

Fabio Capello comments

La Vanguardia quotes Capello as saying, as translated by Heavy: “The first time I saw Messi play live, I said he would be a phenomenon. Well, as a midfielder, Pedri can be the same, one of the best in the world because he has it all.

“I’ve never seen an 18-year-old player with Pedri’s personality. He has impressive confidence. Also, works hard, runs, defends, attacks. It’s incredible.”

Liverpool would get a gem

Barcelona have financial problems, but if they do not want to sell a player, then they will find a way to stop him from leaving.

However, anything is possible when the transfer window is open.

£70 million is a lot of money, but Liverpool are a rich club.

Not many players get compared to Messi, who is arguably the greatest footballer of all time.

If Capello is right, then for £70m, Liverpool could get an absolute gem.

Remember, Pedri is only 18.
