Arsenal’s hopes of bringing Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard back to the club now appear to be over after his latest Instagram post.

The Gunners swooped to sign Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid in January, giving Mikel Arteta a new number 10 to work with.

Odegaard hit two goals and two assists in 20 games for Arsenal across all competitions, making a big impact at the Emirates Stadium.

What has been reported about Odegaard?

Naturally, Arsenal wanted to keep the 22-year-old. Football.London reported last month that Edu was convinced that he could bring Odegaard back.

A loan deal seemed more likely than a permanent one, but Zinedine Zidane’s exit and the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti appeared to complicate matters.

Reports in Spain then suggested that Real would offer a new contract to Odegaard, with Arsenal’s hopes seemingly dwindling by the week.

Odegaard says goodbye to Arsenal

Odegaard has now taken to Instagram to say goodbye to Arsenal, all but confirming that he will not be coming back this summer.

The Norwegian will instead stay with Real Madrid, and Arsenal fans admitted they are ‘absolutely gutted’.

Some called the news heartbreaking, suggesting that Odegaard is ‘phenomenal’ and ‘special’ as Edu has to take this blow and move on to another target.
