This is a big season for Luca Connell at Celtic.
The midfielder joined the Hoops as a first-team player at Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2019.
But fast forward to now, Celtic fans still haven’t seen the 20-year-old in competitive action.
Connell, who was on the fringes of Mick McCarthy’s senior Republic of Ireland side, spent a chunk of last season on loan in the Scottish fourth tier, with Queens Park.
You get the feeling that this could be make or break for the lad at Lennoxtown because if he doesn’t come through this time, it’s difficult seeing him salvaging his spell in Glasgow.
But the youngster is certainly impressing in Ange Postecoglou’s senior training sessions.
Celtic released a video on their Twitter account of the newly-appointed Australian coach putting his players through their paces.
And one moment has reminded Bhoys fans what a big prospect Connell is. Here’s how some supporters reacted on Twitter:
Nature of the beast
Postecoglou has some very decent options in midfield and it has to be said that there’s a reason why Connell has struggled to break through since joining.
But competition is the nature of the beast and if he’s going to succeed at Celtic, he needs seriously ask questions of the new manager.
As mentioned, he seems to be making very good first impressions but unless he keeps it up, he won’t be anywhere near the senior squad again.
