Aliens? Check. Spectacle? Check. Adrenaline-fuelled action? Check. Chris Pratt? Check!

Amazon has delivered some of the biggest movies of the year so far, from Coming 2 America to Without Remorse.

Now, the time has come to strap in for the fight of a lifetime with The Tomorrow War, which begins when a group of time travellers from the year 2051 venture into the past to deliver a shocking message.

Those in the present learn that earth will be taken over by a mysterious alien race in 30 years. That is, unless they can travel forwards in time to help defend humanity as we know it.

We centre on Dan Forester (Chris Pratt) as he steps up to the challenge, accompanied by a scientist and his estranged father.

The sci-fi actioner serves as the live-action directorial feature debut of Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) and is being billed as one of the must-see moviegoing events of the summer. However, let’s take a moment to look beyond the surface and highlight The Tomorrow War filming locations.

The Tomorrow War filming locations

  • The 2021 movie was filmed across a range of Georgia locations and also in Iceland.

As highlighted by The Cinemaholic, principal photography commenced at the beginning of September 2019 and concluded mid-January 2020.

Locations include Lincolnton, which is a historical city located in Lincoln County in the Central Savannah River Area. Certain sequences were shot on location in the Graves Mountain Area.

Moving on, the team was also compelled to capture scenes in Atlanta, the Capital of Georgia, and a popular spot for film crews; blockbusters from Black Panther to Black Widow have found a home there.

In the case of The Tomorrow War, much of the shoot took place in the city, as it served as a stand-in for Miami thanks to some adjustments and essential decoration.

Focusing the lens on specifics, such places as Buckhead, Midtown, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 125 Ted Turner Drive NW and Downtown Atlanta made it into the production, manipulated courtesy of special effects to create a dystopian atmosphere. Additionally, 400 West Peachtree Street North West was closed off to facilitate the project.

From the studio to… a cave?

As for the studio portion, the team flocked to Atlanta’s Blackhall Studios, which opened its doors in DeKalb County back in 2017. Its exact location is 1415 Constitution Road South East #4605.

Last but not least – for Georgia, anyway – it’s also worth noting that a Power Plant was transformed into an oil rig while the sequence at Miami Beach was actually created over on a beach in Jekyll Island.

Also, as mentioned, the cast and crew travelled to Iceland and captured some scenes inside an ice cave and even right atop a glacier. Talk about commitment.
