Nuno Espirito Santo is backing Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic as Fabio Paratici pushes ahead with a potential £36 million deal, as reported by Football London.
When discussing the prospect of a new striker arriving at Spurs this summer, it is tempting to view him through the prism of ‘life after Harry Kane’.
Especially when you consider that Vlahovic, a 6ft 2ins frontman with as much brains as brawn, shares a few things in common with the club’s talismanic number ten, stylistically speaking of course.
But it is worth remembering that, even with Kane at the peak of his powers, a lack of depth in the number nine position has caused its fair share of headaches in recent years, with Fernando Llorente, Carlos Vinicius and Vincent Janssen struggling to share the load.
Even if Kane does stay – and that looks increasingly likely with Manchesters City and United turning their attention to Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho – Tottenham would certainly benefit from the arrival of a player capable of easing the crushing burden of expectation sitting on their star man’s shoulders.
Is Dusan Vlahovic the competition Harry Kane needs at Tottenham?
According to Football London, Tottenham have opened talks with Vlahovic, the £36 million-rated Serbia international who appears to have emerged as Paratici’s first-choice target.
Nuno, the former Wolves boss who was finally confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s replacement on Wednesday, has given a prospective deal the green light, with the self-professed ‘next Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ capable of leading the line with the sort of presence and finesse that saw Raul Jimenez evolve into a bona fide Premier League superstar at Molineux.
This comes after Calciomercato reported in June that Tottenham had made a bid for Vlahovic.
The former Partizan Belgrade wonderkid is understood to be closing in on a move to London too, and recent developments certainly seem to suggest that his destination will be N17, rather than the Emirates.
