Speaking on his YouTube channel, Goal journalist Charles Watts has shared an update on Arsenal and Andre Onana, and Gunners supporters may not like it.

Onana has been linked to Arsenal for quite some time now, and while the fanbase were incredibly excited about the idea of signing the Cameroon international, it seems as though Arsenal may be going cold on the idea.

Indeed, Watts says that Arsenal haven’t firmed up their interest in the goalkeeper and that he gets the idea that they’re moving away from that idea, amid reports they’re looking for a homegrown option instead.

What’s been said?

Watts shared the latest on Arsenal’s interest in Onana.

“I’ve spoken at length about the interest in Andre Onana as well. He’s certainly going to be a lot cheaper than Aaron Ramsdale, but as far as I’m aware, Arsenal haven’t firmed up their interest in him at all since that verdict on his doping ban that was reduced to nine months,” Watts said.

“Potentially Arsenal were hoping that ban would be reduced even further, I don’t know that, that’s just me presuming, but Arsenal certainly haven’t backed up their interest in Onana with any firm bid. You kind of feel that they may be beginning to move away from that idea.”

Fans won’t like it

Judging by the reaction when Arsenal were first linked with Onana, fans won’t like this update.

Onana looked to be the perfect solution to Arsenal’s goalkeeping problem, and with the Ajax stopper reportedly available for just £7m, he would have been a bargain as well.

However, for one reason or another, the Gunners don’t seem to be in a rush to follow up their interest with a bid, with Watts suggesting that they’re moving away from the idea of signing Onana.

Of course, things can change very quickly, but there will be some very disappointed supporters if Onana isn’t signed this summer.
