Arsenal have reportedly moved to try and tie Reiss Nelson down to a new contract.
The 21-year-old is very much a fringe player at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
In fact, the Gunners boss gave Nelson only 205 minutes of senior football across all competitions last season.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see Arteta tentatively linked with a move away from North London this summer.
But Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Twitter that Arsenal have offered the player a new deal until 2024.
That being said, Romano added that Nelson, who is out of contract next summer, may snub the extension, with some English clubs and Olympiacos keen on him.
Logical
Trying to keep Nelson is completely logical.
Well, perhaps it isn’t logical to keep him as a player, because Arteta clearly has very little use for him.
But as an investment, it makes sense for Arsenal to extend his contract because that would enhance his value.
Remember, we’re talking about a 21-year-old Englishman who still has quite a lot of potential.
And it makes sense for the North Londoners financially if they can boost his contract by another three years.
