England beat Germany on Tuesday, and one man who knows all about playing against Germany at the Euros is Tony Adams.

The former England skipper led the side out the last time the international rivals met at Wembley at a major tournament, and he took to Twitter after the Three Lions’ win yesterday.

While most spectators were full of praise for the whole team, Adams singled out two players in particular – Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

Adams says he wishes he could have had Rice and Phillips in front of him back in 1996, and we have to say that England may have gone through that time if they had that pivot.

People will speak about the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish after England’s win, but Rice and Phillips deserve just as much credit.

Playing against a midfield of Toni Kroos and Leon Goretzka is an unenviable task, especially when you’ve never played top-level international football or appeared in the Champions League, but Phillips and Rice played as though they were veterans at this level.

Adams is spot on about Phillips and Rice, they were absolutely fantastic against Germany.
