According to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur have now opened talks to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer.

Tottenham may not have a manager in place just yet, but they need to get moving with their transfer plans ahead of the new Premier League season.

Fabio Paratici is on board as director of football, and he must search for new faces – especially in defence, with new options at the back needed.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Tomiyasu

The Sun first broke news of Tottenham’s interest in Tomiyasu, suggesting that they were confident of getting him signed up for around £15million.

Sky now state that Tottenham have opened talks to sign the defender, with Paratici making an approach to Bologna in an effort to get Tomiyasu signed up.

Other defenders like Joachim Andersen and Jannik Vestergaard are mentioned, but it’s Tomiyasu who is now looking most likely to join Tottenham.

Atalanta had agreed a contract with Tomiyasu but couldn’t agree a fee, meaning Paratici is now swooping in to hijack them.

Who is Takehiro Tomiyasu?

The 22-year-old impressed in Belgium with Sint-Truiden having arrived in January 2018 from Avispa Fukuoka, and his superb displays earned him his big move to Italy just 18 months later.

Now a Serie A regular, Tomiyasu has impressed at centre back and right back whilst being branded ‘very strong’ and a ‘warrior’ by Bologna teammate Mitchell Dijks.

Tomiyasu has huge potential, and Paratici looks set to use his connections in Italy to get a deal done and bolster Tottenham’s back line – even before a manager has come in.
