Arsenal have opened talks with Sheffield United over a deal for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, according to The Athletic.

Bernd Leno’s future is up in the air, Mat Ryan has gone back to Brighton and Hove Albion whilst Runar Runarsson isn’t of the required standard.

Arsenal will subsequently be in the market for one, possibly even two goalkeepers this summer – and Ramsdale appears to be one target.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Ramsdale

The Sun broke news of Arsenal’s interest in Ramsdale earlier this month, suggesting that the Sheffield United ace was bring lined up to boost Mikel Arteta’s options.

It’s now stated that talks have been opened with the Blades over a potential deal, with contact initiated between the two clubs.

The report adds that the fee Arsenal are willing to pay for Ramsdale suggests they may see him as their future number one rather than just homegrown backup.

Another England international potentially heading to Arsenal

Arsenal are pushing to sign Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White, who is currently away on international duty with England at Euro 2020.

One of his teammates in that squad is Ramsdale, and the pair could reunite at Arsenal next season to lead a new-look Gunners back line.

Branded ‘fearless’ by England legend Alan Shearer, it’s clear that Ramsdale is still highly rated despite two successive relegations – and Arsenal seemingly feel that there is huge potential in the 23-year-old.
