Loris Karius has suggested that he’d be open to a permanent move away from Liverpool.
The German goalkeeper hasn’t kicked a ball for the Reds since that Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid three years ago.
Karius made two shockers on the night and Liverpool wound up losing by two goals.
Jurgen Klopp brought in Alisson in a £66 million transfer a month later and then chose to loan out Karius, who spent two years with Besiktas and another with Union Berlin last season.
The 28-year-old is coming into the final year of his contract on Merseyside and the Premier League giants will have to sell this summer or risk losing him for free in 12 months.
And the player himself has told Bild that he may be open to a switch to Italy or Spain.
He told Bild: “The club has to be up for it, I have to be up for it and the coach has to be up for it. Last year taught me again that you have to exchange ideas intensively with those responsible and that you really have to pay attention to your intuition,” the Reds keeper stressed.
“I don’t know if it has to be something completely exotic. But [a move to] Spain, Italy – I can already imagine something like that, if it fits.”
Should he go?
In a word, yes.
He has zero future at Liverpool and with Caoimhin Kelleher signing a new three-year contract on Friday, it’s clear that Klopp has no plan for him.
Despite two shocking mistakes on a massive stage, Karius isn’t an awful goalkeeper so much as he’s a goalkeeper with ravaged confidence.
But one thing is clear: if he does rebuild his confidence, it won’t be in England and certainly not at Anfield.
A move away makes the most sense.
