Everton fans have taken to Twitter after Area Napoli revealed that Fiorentina had made contact with Rafa Benítez.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spaniard has been in talks with Everton, and the Toffees are now working on a deal to bring him to Goodison Park (Liverpool Echo).
Benítez is a hugely unpopular candidate to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Everton supporters displayed anti-Benítez banners outside Goodison Park.
This led to the Toffees fearing a repeat of the #NoToGattuso campaign which saw Tottenham dissuaded from hiring Gennaro Gattuso.
Now, those Everton fans against a move for Benítez have been thrown a lifeline, after Fiorentina entered the race for his services.
Rafa Benítez should join Fiorentina
From our point of view, we can’t understand why Benítez would want to join Everton after seeing the backlash from some supporters.
He would be up against it before managing a single game.
Also, if he didn’t get results, Goodison Park would surely become even more toxic towards him, and quickly.
In Fiorentina, there is an interesting project, with good players involved such as 21-goal striker Dušan Vlahović.
Having managed in Italy before, Benítez also wouldn’t experience any language barrier – it’s a great move.
Crucially, Fiorentina fans don’t already hate him, which is the main thing.
