Arsenal have just loaned out Konstantinos Mavropanos once again.

The big Greek defender spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan with Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

And the Germans have now signed up the 23-year-old Arsenal man for another temporary spell but, according to The Athletic, they have the option to make the move permanent for £5 million next summer.

Sven Mislintat brought him to North London in January of 2018 and this is the third time that the Stuttgart sporting director has signed him.

Here’s how the German reacted to the deal on Twitter, via the club’s official account:

He said: “We have always emphasized that we like to keep Dinos longer if the opportunity presents itself. Dinos had expressed a clear wish early on to stay at Stuttgart and we were able to find an agreement with Arsenal. Dinos is well on the way to becoming an absolute top central defender and we are very happy to continue with him.”

Mistake?

HITC Sport wrote last week that selling Mavropanos for £7 million was a mistake, but £5 million is even worse.

The fact that Mislintat is such a big fan of the player should tell the Emirates Stadium club that there’s something there.

Yes, Arsenal are about to sign Ben White [The Athletic] but having lost Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz over the past six months, and with William Saliba potentially leaving too, Mikel Arteta isn’t flush with centre-back options.

Loaning out Mavropanos may prove a mistake, but selling him for that amount may prove an even bigger one.
