Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Charles Watts has shared what he knows about Arsenal’s pursuit of Andre Onana.

It’s been reported for quite some time that the Gunners want to sign Onana this summer, and while that seems to be the case, the London outfit reportedly haven’t made a bid for the Ajax man.

Watts says that any deal for Onana will be heavily-dependant on the future of Bernd Leno as Arsenal will be hesitant to sign a new number one while the German is still at the club.

Watts provided the latest on the Gunners’ interest in Onana.

“Onana, I haven’t heard that it’s been firmed up yet in terms of a bid, Arsenal have spoken at length about their interest in Onana, but it hasn’t turned into a bid as of yet,” Watts said.

“There are other clubs interested from France and England, and Arsenal are still waiting as far as I’m told in terms of putting a bid in.

“It revolves around what’s happening with Bernd Leno, I saw some rumours today that Leno is close to signing a new contract, I haven’t heard that, but I saw some things on the internet about that and I haven’t had time to check it out. A lot is going to revolve around Leno because I don’t think Arsenal are in a position to bring in a new number one until they know Leno is definitely going to go because the last thing you want is to bring in a number one and then have Leno also at the club because you can’t find a buyer for him.”

Arsenal are in a bit of a dilemma here.

Swapping Leno for Onana may be an upgrade, but the reality is that if they sell Leno, there’s no guarantee that they’ll land the Cameroon international, with Watts saying he has interest from France and other clubs in England.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on this summer.
