Adam Lallana has told the Official England podcast that he was delighted to hear that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will be starting for England tonight against Czech Republic.
Kane has faced a barrage of criticism for his performances in England’s first two games at Euro 2020.
The Tottenham striker has failed to open his goalscoring account, and has not been as influential as many England fans hoped.
However, Gareth Southgate has already stated that Kane will not be dropped for tonight’s game.
And Lallana thinks that the Tottenham man’s place should not even be under any threat right now.
“I had a couple of conversations over the last 48 hours around the subject because he seems to be a big topic of conversation at the moment,” he said.
“The way I can define it in simple terms is that if England are going to get a chance, who do you want it to fall to?
“There shouldn’t even be a question about his place in my opinion.
“I was delighted when Gareth come out and said of course he’s playing. I thought that was tremendous, just to slam any doubts down and defend his captain.
“When you work with him and see how he trains and his mentality and finishing, his finishing is the best I’ve probably seen.”
Kane to start
Kane has just come off the back of one of his best seasons at Tottenham, so his drop in form at the European Championships has been startling.
There has been accusations that England’s team are simply not doing enough to create for him, though.
The Three Lions haven’t been particularly creative in either of their games so far, which has limited the service which Kane has been given.
The Tottenham striker will now surely be desperate to open his goalscoring account tonight against the Czech Republic.
If England can win then they will secure a knockout clash at Wembley, which could give them a major advantage.
