According to ESPN, Paulo Fonseca has been waiting for Tottenham Hotspur to come back in for him despite interest from Fiorentina.

This manager search at Tottenham just seems to lurch from one farce to the next, as a move for Fonseca – who was hardly their first choice – has collapsed.

Spurs quickly moved on to Gennaro Gattuso, but have scrapped that move too, leaving their manager hunt in tatters.

Fonseca waiting for Tottenham?

ESPN state that Fonseca was approached by Fiorentina after his Tottenham move fell through; somewhat ironic as they had lost Gattuso just hours earlier.

It’s alleged that Fonseca chose not to pursue that move though, because he was waiting for Tottenham to come back in for him.

That seemingly hasn’t happened yet, but maybe the Portuguese boss still holds out hope that Tottenham will bring him in after all.

Fonseca and Paratici not on the same page?

Tottenham have brought in former Juventus man Fabio Paratici as their new managing director of football, and Fonseca appeared to be his recommendation.

However, Calciomercato claim that issues arose during talks between the pair, because Fonseca wanted his Tottenham side to be ‘devoted to attacking’, preferring to spend on forward-thinking players rather than defenders.

Paratici’s vision was completely opposite, focusing on defenders over attackers, and that’s part of why the deal fell apart – and that makes you think Tottenham won’t be going back in for him after all.
