Patrick Vieira told ITV on Saturday afternoon that reported Newcastle target, Billy Gilmour, had a ‘terrific game’ for Scotland at Euro 2020 against England on Friday.
At the age of 20, the highly-rated midfielder shone above many other senior stars, including his own Chelsea teammate, Mason Mount.
The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle are keen on signing his talents this summer, and judging by Friday’s performance at Wembley, that interest will only increase.
But Vieira, who is regarded as one of the best of his generation, shared what he liked about the quick-thinking Scotsman.
“I think he had a terrific game,” said Vieira. “I really love his technical ability. He loves to get on the ball.
“He’s not quite physical or really strong. But his personality allowed him to get on the ball and make the game from the back.
“His teammates aren’t scared to give him the ball because they know how good he is on the ball.
“And I think he has a really good future ahead of him.”
It will be interesting to see where Gilmour’s future takes him this summer and if Chelsea allow him to go out on loan.
If he’s going to get the minutes at Stamford Bridge then there’s no reason as to why he should leave.
But earning regular game time at a place like Newcastle wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially given that he will play in front of a big crowd, there will be big pressure on his shoulders and he will have a lot of experience around him.
Plus, given that Steve Bruce’s side are a physical outfit then it’ll improve that part of his game also.
