Andros Townsend has been speaking to talkSPORT about Tottenham’s prolonged hunt for José Mourinho’s replacement.
What has Townsend said?
While a number of experienced options are still out there, such as Erik ten Hag and Ernesto Valverde, Townsend has made a bold suggestion.
The Crystal Palace winger thinks Daniel Levy should hand the reins to Ryan Mason for at least a year, to see how he gets on.
Townsend said: “I’ve had enough, just give it to Mason and get on with it. Give it to him for a year, see how he gets on and then reassess next summer.”
In his seven games in charge as interim, Mason oversaw some decent results, such as the 4-2 win over Leicester.
He won four of his seven games in charge, scoring 14 goals and conceding nine along the way.
Harry Kane was impressed by Mason’s efforts, describing him as ‘great’ when quizzed on the 30-year-old’s stint in the dugout (Sky Sports).
Ryan Mason isn’t the man

Simply put, this is a massive job.
After Mourinho sapped the life out of Tottenham and the fanbase, it’s now going to take a special person to breathe new life into the club.
Whoever comes in must handle Kane’s future, and must also work out how to make Tottenham’s leaky defence a bit more resolute.
It’s by no means an easy job to walk into.

Mason did okay last season, but with just seven games of management under his belt, he is severely lacking the experience for such a task.
It’s a romantic suggestion from Townsend, and we can see where he’s coming from.
However, Levy would be crazy to hire Mason as Mourinho’s replacement.
