According to UOL, Wolves are interested in signing Diego Costa, who is currently a free agent after leaving Atlético Madrid.

What’s the story?

Well, the 32-year-old has been without a club since he left Atlético Madrid in January, mainly due to his wage demands.

As UOL claim, Costa was approached by São Paulo, and wanted a move to Palmeiras, but his salary hindered negotiations.

Interestingly, he was also offered to Tottenham and West Ham.

However, David Moyes stopped the Hammers from signing the powerful striker.

Now, Wolves are keen, and the 24-cap Spain international is also interested in a return to the Premier League, where he shone for Chelsea.

In 89 Premier League appearances for the Blues, Costa scored 52 goals and provided 16 assists, which is absolutely fantastic.

UOL add that Bruno Lage approves of the Brazil-born striker’s abilities.

Now, Wolves are internally discussing whether a move for Costa would be worth doing from a financial aspect.

In our view, Wolves should offer Costa a one-year contract, at least.

He’s proven himself in England, and could still have a few good years left in him at 32.

Additionally, Wolves can’t afford to suffer the same issues up top as they did last season.

Thankfully, Raúl Jiménez has recovered from his gruesome head injury, although Wolves need more depth at centre-forward.

Willian José has returned to Real Sociedad after an underwhelming loan spell in the Midlands.

In Fábio Silva’s case, the 18-year-old is still too inexperienced to be relied on.

Despite flashes of talent last term, he failed to shoulder the goalscoring burden.

That isn’t a criticism of the teenager, as he’s still learning his trade.

Wolves just need an out-and-out No.9 to take the pressure away from him, and also help Jiménez out as well.
