Premier League newcomers Watford are very close to completing the signing of £13 million-rated winger Jovane Cabral from reigning Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

Xisco Munoz’s side sealed their return to the top flight at the first time of asking in April.

And it is fair to they are not exactly resting on their laurels, basking in the relative glory that is a second-place Championship finish.

Watford have already completed four new signings, bringing in Ashley Fletcher and Danny Rose on free transfers while paying a cool £8 million for Nantes midfielder Imran Louza.

Kwadwo Baah, one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in the EFL, has also put pen to paper with the Hornets despite interest from the likes of Celtic, Rangers and West Ham United.

Jovane Cabral, however, could be the best of the lot.

Not so long ago, the Cape Verde international was being linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur after impressing with his speed, skill and long-range shooting in the Portuguese capital.

A move to the Premier League appears to be finally on the verge of completion some ten months on, however, and it is Watford who are now in pole position to secure Cabral’s signature.

TMW reports that a deal is nearly done for a man understood to be valued in the region of £13 million.

23-year-old Cabral produced eight goals and five assists in all competitions last season as Sporting lifted the Primeira Liga title for the first time since 2002, a faraway land when Cristiano Ronaldo was a little-known teenager and the one-time Bolton flop Mario Jardel was hitting the net 42 times in a single campaign.
