Duncan Castles has claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Arsenal are interested in signing Andre Silva from Eintracht Frankfurt.

What’s the story?

Well-known and well-respected journalist Castles has said that Arsenal have told Silva that they want to sign him in the summer transfer window.

The German club will sell the striker, but they are looking for €40 million (£34.35m) as transfer fee.

RB Leipzig are keen on the Portugal international striker as well.

Castles claims that Arsenal have actually told the 25-year-old that they want him, but they have also informed him that they to sell a player first.

Who are Arsenal planning to sell?

Alexandre Lacazette.

What’s been said?

Castles said about Silva on the Transfer Window Podcast: “Interestingly, he has been targeted by Leipzig, who are probably one of the best judges of talent in European football at present. They see him as a option to kind of be the long-term replacement for Timo Werner.”

The journalist added: “Frankfurt are asking for €40 million (£34.35m) for the player. There is an expectation that that won’t be achieved, and that they will be forced to sell him for less money. Leipzig certainly don’t want to pay €40 million (£34.35m). Arsenal have expressed their interest and have done a lot of propriety work on this deal.

“They have told Andre Silva that they need to sell before they can bring him in, but they want to do that deal, and the player they have targeted sell is Alexandre Lacazette.”

Incredible stats

Silva is one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga and actually scored more than Erling Haaland in the league last season.

Yes, that Haaland who bangs in the goals for fun at Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old Norway international striker scored 27 goals and gave six assists in 28 league matches last season.

Silva, 25, scored 28 goals and provided five assists in 32 Bundesliga games in 2020-21.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Silva is 25 now and will hit his peak in two or three years’ time.

The Portugal international is at the right age to make the move to Arsenal.

The striker would be a good long-term signing for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is 32 now and had a disappointing season in 2020-21.
