*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for season 4, episode 10 of The Handmaid’s Tale*

Revenge is the name of the game in season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale.

After escaping the clutches of Gilead, June Osborne spends much of the season organising the resistance movement and plotting to strike back against the abusive Fred Waterford who tormented her and many others for years.

In episode 10, June finally gets what she wants as Fred is killed but the final scene has left fans with questions as June tells her husband, Luke, that ‘she’ll go.’

Season 4, episode 10 recap

Earlier on in season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale, Fred Waterford and his wife, Serena Joy, were put on trial for their brutal crimes against June Osborne and several other handmaids.

However, in episode 10, it appears that Fred will remain unpunished as he agrees to divulge some damning Gilead secrets in exchange for his freedom.

June doesn’t want to let that stand, however, and arranges with Commanders Lawrence and Nick for Fred to be left in No Man’s Land where June and several other women finally get their chance at revenge.

Fred is brutally killed with his lifeless body left tied to a wall while his wedding ring and a severed finger are sent back to his wife.

Opinion: Where could June be going at the end of season 4?

  • It seems to us that June is either going on the run after killing Fred or is planning on leading the resistance against Gilead.

After arriving home with blood splattered on her face, June comes to say goodbye to her daughter, Nichole, and when her husband, Luke, enters the room, she whispers to him: “I know. I’m sorry. Just give me five minutes, okay? Just give me five minutes with her, then I’ll go.”

It’s unclear where June plans on venturing next but she clearly doesn’t intend to stay with Luke and Nichole, either to protect them or because she still believes that her quest for revenge isn’t over.

After all, Gilead won’t change its cruel ways just because of Fred’s demise and while June may have taken out one of her targets, she clearly believes that the systemic abuse permeated by Gilead must be wiped out as well.

Alternatively, June could be trying to protect her family as she has committed a serious crime in killing the villainous Fred Waterford and could potentially face grim consequences if his death is ever traced back to her.

Season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale concluded on Hulu on June 16th, 2021.
