Arsenal apparently genuinely believe that they can sign James Maddison from Leicester City this summer, the Daily Mail report.
Maddison has become Arsenal’s first choice target according to the latest update, as Mikel Arteta seeks a new playmaker.
Arsenal realise that signing Maddison will not be cheap, as Leicester have previously turned down £70 million bids for him.
However, there are those at the Gunners who apparently genuinely believe that a transfer is not impossible.
Arsenal are said to feel that a package worth around £60 million would convince Leicester to sell up.
Ambitious move
If Arsenal were to bring in Maddison it would be a real statement of intent.
He is Premier League proven and still could have a big role to play with England in the future, even if he hasn’t made the squad for Euro 2020.

Maddison chipped in with eight goals and seven assists for Leicester in the Premier League last term, and if he was to recreate those sort of figures at Arsenal he would be a hugely welcomed addition.
The Gunners will surely need to sell players before they even contemplate making a bid for the Leicester man, who was called ‘incredible’ by Brentford boss Thomas Frank (London Evening Standard).
But if they could bring Maddison in, he is the sort of signing, that would prove Arteta and Arsenal really do have ambitions to become a force again.
