Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has made an impressive start to Euro 2020 for Finland, earning widespread plaudits for his performances in the Finns’ opening two games – and the former Arsenal youngster is showing exactly why Gers fans fear losing the midfield maestro.
Despite losing 1-0 to Russia yesterday, Kamara was integral for his country, completing 92% of his 61 attempted passes, more than anyone else, and sparked a wave of praise on social media.
Rangers fans have long feared losing Kamara with clubs regularly touted as having an interest in luring him away from Ibrox, and his performances for Finland at Euro 2020 won’t do anything to dissuade potential suitors from pursuing a move for him.
While talks over a new contract to extend his stay at Rangers have dragged on for months now, Gers fans are worried that they may have seen the last of Kamara at Ibrox.
His performances for the Light Blues since moving to Ibrox for a paltry £50k in 2019 have been nothing short of exemplary as the Finn made himself one of the first names on Steven Gerrard’s teamsheet.
Clubs like Juventus, Arsenal, Leeds, Watford are credited with an interest in Kamara, if bids start coming in this summer then it’ll be hard to keep him in Glasgow.
Glen Kamara could net huge profit for Rangers if sold
While Rangers will stand to make a massive profit on Kamara if they were to sell, replacing the midfield talisman would be a momentous challenge for Steven Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson.
Having struggled in midfield towards the end of the season as injuries and suspension took their toll, losing Kamara this summer would be arguably the biggest mistake Rangers could make.
With two years on his contract, there isn’t any urgent need to move him on but if Kamara continues to perform the way he has at Euro 2020, there will be a host of clubs blowing up Ross Wilson’s phone with bids.
