Yerson Mosquera is set to become Bruno Lage’s first signing as Wolves manager with the Premier League outfit closing in on a £4.5 million deal for the Atletico Nacional defender, as reported by the Express & Star.

After Wolverhampton Wanderers unveiled former Benfica boss as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement, focus quickly turned to who could be the first new face in the summer transfer window to arrive at a club in transition.

The smart money may have been on Jose Sa, the Portuguese goalkeeper expected to replace Roma-bound Rui Patricio.

Wolves, meanwhile, had also entered talks with Almeria regarding a potential £21.5 million deal for tough-tackling midfielder Samu Costa.

Instead, however, it looks as though 20-year-old Mosquera will be the man to kick-start the Lage reign at Molineux.

Is Yerson Mosquera on the verge of joining Wolves?

The Express & Star believes a £4.5 million deal is almost done.

The Colombian’s signing will be viewed as a “significant coup” by many in the Black Country. Mosquera will be tasked with battling Conor Coady, Willy Boly and co for a place in Lage’s starting XI next season.

Belgian champions Club Brugge were reported to be interested in Mosquera last month but it seems the 6ft 1in star will be honing his considerable talents in old gold instead (Nieuwsblad).

Mosquera can also play in midfield.

You would think, then, he will provide Lage with plenty of depth in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what Mosquera’s arrival would mean for Owen Otasowie, the talented American who forced his way into the senior squad during Nuno Espirito Santo’s final few months in the Molineux dugout.

Nuno’s departure leaves Otasowie’s future uncertain as the midfielder has just one year left on his contract.
