Quite a lot of Arsenal fans have been wanting to see the back of Granit Xhaka for a while now.
And if rumours are believed, they may finally get their wish this summer.
Xhaka is heavily linked with a move to Italy and Roma Press reported earlier this month that a move to Jose Mourinho’s side would materialise before Euro 2020 kicked off.
Clearly that hasn’t happened, but one prominent journalist in Italy has revealed that Mourinho is extremely close to signing both the Arsenal midfielder and Rui Patricio.
Gianluca Di Marzio has told a Sky Sport Italia podcast that a deal to sign the Gunners star – who cost £30 million in 2016 – is ‘almost at the finish line’.
He said: “Xhaka and Patricio operations are almost at the finish line. We are almost there!”
Robbery?
According to Sky Italia, the 28-year-old Switzerland international may only leave Arsenal for around £15 million.
That means the North Londoners are losing half their £30 million investment and given that the player is in the prime of his career, it’s a questionable bit of business.
As mentioned, the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, labelled phenomenal by Mikel Arteta earlier this year, isn’t exactly Mr Popular among fans of the Emirates Stadium club.
But if and when he does go, some supporters just might wind up missing him – especially if the reported figures are correct.
It’s a far better deal for Roma.
