Jack Wilshere told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport that he thinks Euro 2020 will be the tournament of Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
The former Premier League midfielder shared how the Tottenham fan favourite has spoken about wanting to reach the ‘levels of Messi and Ronaldo’.
And Wilshere thinks, if Kane can produce the goods at Euro 2020 then that’s how he can reach those great heights.
Spurs fans will love the prediction the one-time Arsenal man has made about their player.
“I do think (he’s a different player from five years ago),” said Wilshere. “He was still one of the first names on the teamsheet five years ago.
“But I think he has grown as a player. He has improved his game a lot. But as a leader as well, which will be key in this team because as I said there’s not that much experience in this team and to have someone with his ability and name in the game.
“I think this is his tournament if I am honest. He’s going to be looking at the other strikers and thinking ‘why cannot he go and score all those goals’.
“We have heard him speak recently, with Gary Neville, he said that he wants to get to the levels of Messi and Ronaldo. And this is where you get to them levels.”
Kane won the Golden Boot in Russia in 2018 as England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup.
And whilst that tournament surprised many by how far the Three Lions progressed, there is a lot more pressure on them this time around.
Gareth Southgate’s side beat Croatia 1-0 in their Euro 2020 opener on Sunday, with Kane starting the match and then being subbed in the second half.
It was a fairly quiet game for the quick-thinking forward, who will be hoping he can get his shooting boots on for Scotland’s visit on Friday.
