According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal target Rodrigo De Paul is on the verge of a medical with Atletico Madrid as he prepares to leave Udinese.
Gianluca Di Marzio adds that the two clubs have struck an agreement, with Atletico paying around €35million (£30million) to complete the deal.
De Paul must agree a contract with Atletico, but the La Liga champions are preparing a medical for the Argentinian playmaker.
Arsenal, Leeds United and Liverpool all miss out
Last week, Tutto Udinese suggested that Arsenal had joined the race to sign De Paul with Edu desperate to find another number 10.
A deal to keep Martin Odegaard looks unlikely, and De Paul was identified as a potential alternative with Edu looking to be active early in the window.
The same report suggested that Leeds United and Liverpool were also looking to sign De Paul, with major interest from England.
How did De Paul perform last season?
De Paul, 27, racked up nine goals and 10 assists in 36 games for Udinese last season, once against starring in Serie A.
The Argentinian has been branded ‘extraordinary’ by former Udinese boss Julio Velazquez, with his creative ability earning huge plaudits.
De Paul could have been a great addition for Arsenal, Leeds or Liverpool, but they all appear to have missed out.
