Scottish giants Celtic could renew their long-standing interest in want-away Boavista striker Alberth Elis with £8.5 million enough to seal the deal, as reported by A Bola.
Now, we’re not saying Celtic would have been celebrating a tenth successive Premiership title had the Hoops shown far more care in the final third – but a tendency to squander the easiest of opportunities certainly didn’t help.
And the impending departure of Odsonne Edouard, arguably Celtic’s most gifted striker since Henrik Larsson, means new manager Ange Postecoglou has a major task on his hands as he looks to drag the Bhoys back to the summit of Scottish football.
With just eight goals in 31 games last season, Elis doesn’t exactly stand out as a forward capable of stepping into Edouard’s boots at Parkhead.
In fact, he hasn’t broken the 20-goal barrier in a single campaign since 2015/16, when he was still playing in his Honduran homeland with CD Olimpia.
Could Alberth Elis replace Odsonne Edouard at Celtic?
Elis, then, would represent a major risk for Celtic – especially with an £8.5 million price tag potentially making him the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history.
A Bola reports Celtic have joined Premier League pair West Ham United and Southampton in the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

“I finished the season well at Boavista, that’s why there are teams interested in me,” Elis said earlier this week.
“Most likely, I will leave Boavista. My goal is to continue to evolve and look for bigger teams.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Celtic have been linked with the 6ft centre-forward, a striker famed for his pace and aerial presence.
Elis was first mentioned as a potential target in 2019, with former Hoops favourite Emilio Izaguirre admitting his fellow Honduran international was interested in a move to Scotland.
