Paulo Fonseca will sign a two year deal with Tottenham Hotspur, with an option for another year, the Guardian say.

Tottenham have been talking with Fonseca for some time and those discussions are said to have progressed well over the weekend.

Spurs are now in a position to appoint Fonseca, and his arrival could be confirmed on Wednesday – according the latest update.

The wait is finally over

That will finally bring Tottenham’s wait for a new manager to an end, after what has been a lengthy period of time.

Spurs have now gone well over 50 days without a permanent manager in place.

It is fair to say that Fonseca was not many Tottenham fans’ first choice at the time Jose Mourinho departed, and he also didn’t appear to be particularly high on Spurs’ wishlist initially.

But the appointment of Fabio Paratici as sporting director has led Tottenham to believe that Fonseca is the right man.

The Portuguese boss comes without compensation and is unlikely to command as high as wage as some of his predecessors.

That could be good news for Spurs, who are working on a limited budget this summer, with Fonseca likely to want to make some additions of his own during the transfer market.
