Rangers and Scotland icon Ally McCoist made his Euro 2020 debut alongside Clive Tyldesley on commentary for the thrilling Netherlands-Ukraine clash in Amsterdam – and there has been a massive outpouring of love for the 58-year-old on Twitter.

McCoist has long been a favourite of fans as a co-commentator, with his mini-history lessons from the 2018 World Cup proving to be one of the lingering memories of the tournament, so when he was on the mic for last night, fans knew they were in for a treat.

Handily assisted by having the best game of the tournament so far – although, in truth, it wouldn’t have mattered – McCoist and Tyldesley provided 90 minutes of commentary perfection for fans at home.

With the likes of Jermain Jenas, Nigel Keown and John Hartson having taken stick for their efforts on previous games, McCoist’s sheer enjoyment of football makes him an absolute pleasure to listen to.

With ‘Super’ also on the mic for England v Scotland at Wembley later in the tournament, the last Scot to score at a European Championship (until this afternoon?) is sure to win even more fans for his entertaining, informative and engaging commentary.

The Netherlands would win a thrilling contest 3-2 over Ukraine in the last of yesterday’s three games but, despite it being the best match of Euro 2020, Twitter was only talking about Ally McCoist.

Here are some of the comments as Ally McCoist quickly became one of the highlights of Euro 2020 so far
