Gary Lineker has confidently predicted on BBC Match of the Day live that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish will still have a big part to play at Euro 2020.
Grealish did not feature at all for England yesterday, as they won 1-0 against Croatia.
The decision to leave the Aston Villa captain out was heavily questioned before the game.
However, Gareth Southgate was ultimately proved correct, as Raheem Sterling netted the goal to take England to the three points.
Grealish may have been slightly disappointed not to feature the opener at all.
But Lineker thinks that the Villa playmaker will be given plenty of chances to feature before the end of the tournament.
He said: “It’s important to say, the likes of Grealish – their time will come in this tournament. It’s almost certain.
“Against teams that sit, players like Grealish will open them up.”
Scotland on Friday then?
Grealish’s best chance of breaking into England’s team may actually now be ahead of Phil Foden or Mason Mount rather than Sterling.
Sterling’s influence on the opener surely makes him a likely starter against Scotland on Friday.
If Grealish is backed to play then he will simply need to keep his recent standards up.
Grealish delivered two excellent performances in England’s warm-up games prior to the tournament, and if he can do so on the big stage, he will surely make himself difficult to drop for Southgate.
