Karen Carney commented on Everton and Manchester City duo, Jordan Pickford and John Stones, having a ‘little argument’ during England’s 1-0 win against Croatia at Euro 2020 on Sunday, as she told BBC Sport.

The former England winger claimed that both players looked ‘a little bit stressed’ towards the end of the first half and Stones looked ‘slightly flustrated’.

It was a pretty warm day at Wembley yesterday, and whilst there was some miscommunication just before the break between the duo when clearing danger, they did well to secure a clean sheet in the end given the pressure on their shoulders going into the match.

But this is what Carney had to say about Pickford and Stones yesterday:

“Jordan Pickford and John Stones have just been having a bit of an argument,” said Carney.

“They seem a little bit stressed at the end of the pitch. Stones looked slightly flustered.”

Well, England produced a first yesterday by winning the opening game of a European Championships for the first time in their history.

And that against a team that knocked them out of the 2018 World Cup, so the three points and a clean sheet was a big positive.

But Gareth Southgate did select a pretty defensive line-up and it will be interesting to see if he sticks with that when England take on Scotland on Friday.

The Three Lions won’t be worrying too much about having possession of the ball against the Scots, so it will be interesting to see if Southgate brings in the likes of Marcus Rashford or Jack Grealish.
