It’s fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur have never really replaced Kyle Walker.

The North Londoners have certainly signed right-backs since selling Walker to Manchester City, like Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty.

But nobody has come close to being as brilliant as the 31-year-old was when it comes to attacking and defending.

Kieran Trippier and Aurier were both excellent going forward but, defensively, they weren’t as solid as the Sky Blues star.

Both – and Doherty – also lack that explosive pace that Walker has and even Kylian Mbappe has touched on it recently.

He told France Football yesterday that the former Tottenham star is ‘like a tank’ when he gets going.

He said: “There are also players less explosive from a standing start like Kyle Walker at Manchester City. He is like a tank once he hits his speed once he gets into it.”

The North Londoners announced the appointment of Fabio Paratici on Saturday evening.

The Italian is joining Tottenham from Juventus and will no doubt look to improve the club’s recruitment over the summer.

And one area that they must strengthen is right-back.

The Lilywhites won’t find another Walker – and definitely not in their budget – but Aurier and Doherty can’t possibly be the best that Tottenham can do in this role.
