According to Football London, Arsenal are not close to tying Emile Smith Rowe down to a new deal despite reports to the contrary.
The midfielder has been a breakout star for the Gunners this term, and amid rumoured interest from Aston Villa, the London club have reportedly been looking to offer him improved terms.
This report from Football London states that Arsenal do indeed want to give Smith owe a new contract, but despite other journalists, namely Fabrizio Romano, claiming that an agreement isn’t far off, Football London believe that it isn’t close as of yet.
This is something of a worrying update for Arsenal, especially with Aston Villa reportedly having a close look at signing Smith Rowe this summer.
Arsenal haven’t had the best of times, but one positive at the Emirates has been the emergence of their talented youngster such as Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, and the London club can’t allow that good work to be undone by losing Smith Rowe before he’s reached his peak.
Fingers crossed the Gunners can get the 20-year-old to put pen to paper sooner rather than later, but if this report is accurate, Arsenal fans shouldn’t be holding their breath waiting for an announcement anytime soon.
Smith Rowe’s situation is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming months.
