According to Il Messaggero, Arsenal have submitted a €20 million (£17 million) bid to Lazio for the services of Joaquín Correa.
What’s the story?
Well, the Italian news outlet believe that Arsenal have made their first concrete move for the 5-cap Argentina international.
The news comes shortly after Solo La Lazio claimed that Arsenal had spoken to the 26-year-old’s agent.
In that respect, perhaps Correa’s representatives gave the Gunners plenty of encouragement that a deal could be done, now a bid has been submitted.
Solo La Lazio added that Everton have also spoken to the forward’s agent.
However, the Toffees have been managerless of late, so we wonder who’s been orchestrating the interest in Correa.
Nuno Espírito Santo looks set to be appointed, but it’s very possible that the Portuguese coach will arrive with his own ideas and may not want Correa.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are also said to be interested in the South American.
It will be interesting to see if Jürgen Klopp’s men now try to match Arsenal’s bid.
£17m isn’t likely to do it
According to Il Messaggero‘s story, £17 million isn’t enough.
It is said that Lazio won’t even bother negotiating with the Gunners unless an offer of at least €30 million (£26 million) arrives at their door.
In our view, Arsenal should stump up the cash.
Correa is a hugely talented forward, who is able to play in a number of positions across the frontline.
As Transfermarkt shows, he played as a centre-forward, supporting striker and also a centre attacking-midfield this season.
In 38 appearances, he scored 11 goals and provided six assists.
The Argentine has also previously admitted that he’d like to play in the Premier League and learn how to speak English (Goal).
In this day and age, £26 million isn’t that much.
If Arsenal have the cash, it would be a shrewd signing.
