Speaking on the ITV Football Show, pundit Alan McInally has claimed that France will not win the Euros because of Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris.
France go into this tournament as favourites after their World Cup triumphs, but McInally believes they won’t be lifting this trophy due to Lloris being their number one stopper.
What’s been said?
McInally believes that there are too many egos in the French camp, and he also says that Lloris being in goal is a worry.
“They’ll be fighting after 10 days, they’ll be battling with each other after 10 days. The egos in that camp are incredible. They won’t win it because Lloris is in goal, he’s not my most favourite at all. Belgium are certainties, De Bruyne will shine, Lukaku will be the top goal scorer,” McInally said.
Could be right
France have a squad good enough to win the Euros, but when you look at that team Lloris is the weak-link.
It’s largely been forgotten due to the team’s exploits going forward, but Lloris made an absolute howler in the World Cup final, and if it weren’t for the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba being at their best on the day, he could have cost his team the World Cup.
Lloris does have a mistake in him, and at this level, the slightest error from a goalkeeper can be enough to eliminate a team from the competition.
