Nothing was ever the same after Flight 828…
A wealth of new shows emerged across the 2010s and audiences took a particular liking towards the mysterious supernatural drama Manifest.
Created by Jeff Rake, the series premiered on NBC back in September 2018 and raised an abundance of questions in its tale of passengers coming away from a plane journey to discover they’ve been gone for over five years.
Performances from the likes of Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, and beyond have impressed and the season 3 finale recently aired on Thursday, June 10th.
Inevitably, hopes have swiftly turned to Manifest season 4 but is it renewed?
Is Manifest renewed for season 4?
- As of yet, NBC has not announced any concrete renewal news. However, there are a number of reasons to be optimistic.
Back in May, Channing Dungey – chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group, who produce the series – revealed: “We would love for the show to continue on NBC…We are still in conversations with NBC and keeping our fingers crossed.”
In the wake of the recent finale, it’s likely that talks are progressing.
With Warner Bros. eager to continue on, it’s worth highlighting that the creator explained he wants to make six seasons in total during a Television Critics Association panel:
“I pitched it, as someone who didn’t have a previous serialized show before, with a roadmap and clear chapters along the way. We don’t always know the number of episodes we get per season, so we roll with the punches. But the show wants to be six seasons.”
Then there’s the detail of Susan Rovner, the TV executive who sold the show to NBC while she was working at Warner Bros. Well, Newsweek includes that she’s now the chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal.
Are the numbers in its favour?
Reflecting on NBC’s recent renewals, the network has already picked up the likes of Young Rock, The Blacklist, and three Chicago series for new seasons.
Looking at the ratings and audience figures, it’s somewhat encouraging to see that Manifest performed better than the likes of Young Rock, so arguably renewal wouldn’t be too hard to imagine.
In the network’s general rankings, Manifest comes in ninth among the demographic of those aged 18-to-49, whereas the overall rating place it eleventh out of 19 shows.
On the other hand, there’s the issue of decreased viewership, as season 3 lost roughly 20% of the overall audience.
Can Netflix help steer the course?
The series was added to Netflix US on Thursday, June 10th 2021 and plenty of people have already dived deep into season 1.
With NBC yet to make an announcement, perhaps the show’s possible popularity on the streaming service could persuade those at the top to greenlight more episodes. After all, with more and more viewers tuning in on Netflix, the more the potential audience for a fourth season grows.
Although there has been no word yet, it’s likely that fans will learn of Manifest’s fate in June or July 2021.
