Battlefield 2042 was recently revealed with a fantastic trailer, but news about crossplay and cross platform multiplayer is said to be coming for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

We know that the game will not have a single-player campaign and battle royale mode has also been omitted. The lack of the popular BR isn’t too disappointing as there are other multiplayer modes such as All-Out-Warfare, but the omission of a single-player campaign has divided the community.

Although the omission of a single-player campaign is understandably unwelcoming for some, there’s still plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming instalment.

Battlefield 2042 multiplayer modes

The three multiplayer modes confirmed are All-Out Warfare and Hazard Zone. A third mode will be announced at EA Play on July 22nd so fans can keep their eyes peeled for that.

Not much information has been shared about Hazard Mode other than it’s an “all-new high stakes multiplayer experience”. In opposition, we know that All-Out-Warfare will feature 128 players in Conquest and Breakthrough action.

As for the mysterious third mode, the game’s website simply teases that it’s “a new way to play Battlefield“.

Battlefield 2042 specialists

Four specialists have been confirmed with more to follow leading up to the game’s launch. The specialists are Webster Mackay, Maria Flack, Pyotr Boris Guskovsky, and Wikus Casper Van Daele.

Webster Mackay is a lone-wolf and ex-military survivalist who uses a grappling hook and has Nimble to move fast while aiming. Meanwhile, Maria Flack is a Combat Sturgeon who revives players with full health, and also has a Syrette Pistol that fires syringes at friendlies.

Pyotr Boris Guskovsky has an SG-36 Sentry System which automatically spots and targets enemies in its area. Lastly, Wikus Casper Van Daele has an OV-P Recon Drone which spots nearby moving targets and can disorient enemies using an EMP.

Does Battlefield 2042 have cross platform multiplayer?

During a press event for the game, DICE general manager, Oskar Gabrielson, said that news concerning cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression will be revealed leading up to the game’s launch (via VG24/7). It’s possible this news could be made at EA Play on July 22nd.

Although crossplay is rumoured and expected, 128 players is only possible on the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions of the game, meanwhile PS4 and Xbox One are only capable of 64 players. While not official, this might mean cross-gen is not possible.

We will update this article when an official announcement is made.
