On June 10th, 2021, former BTOB member Jung Ilhoon received a two-year prison sentence for the purchase and use of marijuana.
The 26-year-old singer, actor and record producer was sentenced to two years by the Seoul Central District Court for the purchase and use of marijuana, Koreaboo.com has reported.
The news about Jung’s prison sentence comes after reports first broke in December 2020.
Who is Jung Ilhoon?
Jung, 26, is a singer, record producer and former member of the South Korean group BTOB.
He graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School and attended Korea College of Media Arts. Jung shot to fame as one of seven members of BTOB, which was formed back in 2012.
Moreover, the singer made his acting debut starring in the drama Webtoon Hero: Tundra Show in 2015.
Jung has a huge fan base of 938,000 followers on Instagram.
Jung Ilhoon receives prison sentence
On Thursday (June 10th, 2021), Jung Ilhoon was sentenced to two years for the purchase and use of marijuana between 2016 and 2019, Koreaboo.com has reported.
The Seoul Central District Court sentenced the 26-year-old artist and ordered Jung to pay a fine of 133 million KRW (around $119,000). He was immediately taken to custody.
The report from Koreaboo.com has quoted Jung’s legal counsel which says: “The defendant is reflecting deeply on his actions. He was fearful as it was the first trial and investigation of his life. He worked in the entertainment industry at such a young age and he tried to relieve the stress in the wrong way.”
Back in May during his previous trial, Jung said: “I’m so sorry to have disappointed many who trusted me, and I got to look back on my life as I go through this case. I can’t take back what happened, but I’ll remember the pain and awakenings I had from this case forever and try to live a life without [any regret].”
